We made it! I hope everyone has a restful break and we’ll see all pupils back here on Tuesday 9th January 2018.
Christmas at Corstorphine
It has been a very Christmassy week at school and we have thoroughly enjoyed the Nativity, parties, Nursery Performances (great audience participation!) and an Eco Art Fair! Some P7s helped out the Eco Art Fair by taking photographs and then creating an i-movie for all those who couldn’t come along. Well done Joe and Gregor! If you click on the following link you will be able to see their i-movie;
The week finished off with a lovely service – thank you Moira.
Parent Council News
On 14th December 2017, you will have received notification of the upcoming School Inspection. Within the letter issued via ParentPay, there was a link provided to an online survey. The purpose of this is for School Inspectors to gather the views of parents, as part of their review. It is available from https://forms.education.gov.scot/s/2ZR0Y/ . A separate survey for nursery Parents is available from https://forms.education.gov.scot/s/YJ06O/ .
To remind you, the closing date for completing these surveys is Friday 22nd December 2017. Inspectors will also be meeting with groups of parents during the inspection, so to be part of that discussion you should complete the survey and, using the additional links provided, indicate your interest in taking part. These parent sessions will be held during school hours on Tuesday 16th January 2018.
Update on Catchment Review
When the Edinburgh Schools Review was announced on 24th November 2017, the letter issued via ParentPay noted that Edinburgh Council would run events early in the New Year at all the affected schools. Mrs Henderson, Mrs Briggs and I met with the Council this week, and I can now confirm that a “drop in session” will be held on Wednesday 31st January 2018 from 2.30pm to 3.30pm/3.45pm. This will be an opportunity for parents/carers to come to the school and talk about the plans with, and ask any questions of, School Estate Planning Officers.
There is also an opportunity to express views on the Schools Review by filling in an online form accessible at http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/info/20263/edinburgh_schools_review/1660/west_and_south_west_schools_review/2. Having discussed this with School Estate Planning Officers, they are keen to understand the views of as many parents as possible. This includes parents who are not impacted by the proposed changes. Therefore, if you are not impacted by the Catchment Review and are happy (or relieved!), then please also fill in the online form and express that view to the Council. This will give them a more rounded view of parent opinion. The deadline for online comments is Friday 9th February 2018.

Parent Council Travel Survey
The Corstorphine Primary Parent Council are about to review the School Travel Plans and as part of this we need to do a baseline of current travel, to and from the school. We have been looking at solutions and ideas on how to improve school travel and also how the school deals with complaints relating to parking and increased traffic surrounding the school. We want to take advantage of and harness some of the recent interest in cycling and the Councils Active Schools programme and the Governments Active Travel opportunities. We are doing some research into what parents/carers, pupils and staff feel about the subject and also looking for some input of your ideas.
We are hoping to improve the best ways of keeping the communication channels with parents/carers, pupils and staff, open on this subject, as this will be an ongoing process for a short while.
As part of our first step in reviewing the School Travel Plan, we would like you to help us by answering a few quick questions, which won’t take long, about your journey to and from school and your ideas. We really appreciate your time in doing this.
We have prepared a Survey Monkey, attached which should take up five minutes of your time. Each child should each complete their own survey. We encourage you to fill it in as much information as possible, you may need your parents or carers to help you do this but it is important we have your opinions.
Lastly if you want to get involved or interested in hearing more please give us your name and an email address at the end.
Thank you in advance for your valuable time.
