Children in Need
As I looked out of my window at break time today, my eyes were met with a sea of colour. Instead of the usual red sweatshirts, pupils came to school in whatever they liked and by the looks of things most of them just came straight from bed! Not to be outdone, the staff rose to the challenge too; pj’s, 80s outfits, wigs and big hair were among their choices. We would like to thank you for all the generous donations and we will let you know the grand total in next week’s blog.
Supported Self-Evaluation Visit
This week we were pleased to welcome Quality Improvement Education Officers into our school and classrooms to support us in our self-evaluation of the school. We were very pleased that they recognised that restorative practice and distributed leadership were key strengths of our school. Well done everyone as that includes ALL staff, pupils and families and we thank you for your support.
PTA: Countdown to Christmas
The Christmas Fair is taking place on Saturday 25th November from 10am to 12pm, but before the day, here are a few dates for your diary:
Friday 17th November: The baubles for the very popular ‘Decorate a Bauble’ Competition will go on sale. The PTA stall will be in the lantern wing and each bauble will cost £1. This is also the last day for calendar orders before the fair, so make sure you have your order in today if you want to guarantee your copies.
Monday 20th November: If you can’t make Friday we will also be selling baubles in the bike shed from 3pm, also please return your raffle tickets, whether sold or unsold, to the school by Monday 20th. The raffle will be drawn at 11.30 on the day of the fair and there are lots of great prizes including a Luxury Hamper from Craigies, a meal for 2 at Eastern Pavillon, a Ukelele from Guitar Guitar and £100 cash!
Friday 24th November: Your stunningly decorated baubles should be handed in at school on or before Friday 24th November in preparation for hanging around the school during the Fair, and the judging! These can be placed in a box in each of our classrooms. There will be class prizes of house points and an overall winner for P1-3 and P4-7, who will receive a small prize. After the Fair your baubles will be returned to the children so they can hang them up at home. Calendars will also be delivered to those who have ordered them then, we will also be selling calendars at the Fair if you have missed the pre-order deadline.
As always, if you would be able to donate some of your time to paint a face, sell a cake, or help out in any other way, please get in touch! You can email us at email@example.com or complete the form on the back of the newsletter and return it to school.
Thank you for your attention and we hope to see you there!
Just a reminder that if children require any form of medication it should be brought into the school office where the relevant paper work must be completed. Children should not bring any medication into the classroom. We appreciate your support in this matter.
Harley’s Fundraising – Christmas Hampers
Thank you to everyone who placed bids on our eBay auction for CRUK and Maggie’s last week. We raised over £1,500 and are over the moon! As mentioned in the last post, Harley and I are now taking orders for Christmas hampers. These are £20 and, as everything has been donated (Sainsbury’s – ingredients, Hobbycraft & Lakeland – cake boxes and treat bags, Scotmid – ham and cheese and even the packing straw which was donated by the Lasswade Riding Centre), the full amount will go to CRUK and Maggie’s.
Shortbread (Granny’s recipe)
Ricciarelli (marzipan biscuits)
Please contact me on 07584 034196 if you are interested and the deadline for orders is 24.11.17. We are able to bake to order but the week in the run up to Christmas is getting booked up quickly so do get in touch as soon as possible. We can also replace the ham and cheese with other savouries, according to dietary requirements.
Thanks for reading,
Clare & Harley (P6)
I am delighted to let you know that you have a winner each in the Winter Windows Competition 2017:
Dexter Edwards and Emily Brown
It’s been a busy week for that office as they have supported parents in registering their pupils for P1 in August. Registration week is now over so if you still need to register your child please contact the office at your earliest convenience.
Parent Council Surveys
A Healthy School Meal enables your children to play and learn to the best of their abilities.
In 2014 the Scottish Government set the current guidelines for School Meals, Better Eating, Better Learning – A New Context for School Food.
At the Parent Council we want to hear your (Parent’s and Carers) views of Corstorphine Primary School Meals, good and bad. We have prepared a Survey Monkey, attached which should take up ten minutes of your time. We encourage you to fill it in as thoroughly as possible so we can collate the parents/carers view of the current school meals on offer.
The more information we have the more this supports us in implementing change.
We also want to hear what the children’s view of School Meals and School Packed lunches is at Corstorphine primary, good and bad. Do you love school dinners or do you hate them? Why is that?
We want you to look forward to eating the school dinners and for them to be a positive part of your day.
We have prepared a Survey Monkey, attached which should take up ten minutes of your time. Each child should each complete their own survey. We encourage you to fill it in as much information as possible, you may need your parents or carers to help you do this but it is important we have your opinions.
The more information we have from you the more we can make change.
Thanks for your time,
The Parent Council
