HT Blog 15th September 2017
Please remember that Monday 18th is a holiday and the school will be closed. Staff and pupils will return on Tuesday 19th September.
Maths Week Scotland
We kicked off Maths Week Scotland with a maths themed Gather Round on Monday. Since then all classes have had a special focus on maths throughout the week and here are some of the highlights.
P1 concentrated on shape work including looking at the shape of puddles, measuring puddles with shapes and making shape pictures.
P2 wrote number stories, played maths games and explored Venn diagrams
P3 made treasure maps
P4 went to the park to gather information on plants and created tallies and bar charts with their results
P5 went to the park to develop their measuring skills, estimation skills and explore angles. They also did some interesting problem solving about Henry 8th’s six wives!
P6 made pictures from tessellations and parabolic curves.
P7 did Islamic tessellation linking in with their RME topic
All classes have worked on maths displays which will go up in the gym hall over the course of next week.
Junior Road Safety Officers
Mrs Miller and a few of our JRSOs went to a fantastic launch event at the City Chambers on Wednesday. Their action packed morning included the presentation of the STARS awards, Road Safety Magic, how to carry out the Hands up Survey, school presentations and a go on the Smoothie Bike!
Parent Forum Meeting
All parents are invited to the Parent Forum Meeting on Wednesday 27th Sept at 7.15pm in the Lantern Wing
Come and learn about the Parent Council and the important work they do to support the school
Key topics being discussed:
Travel to School / Parking
Adult refreshments will be provided!
It has been brought to my attention that some pupils have been leaving the school playground, after being dropped off by parents, to visit the corner shop and this may not be to their parents’ knowledge. Please let the school office know if you have arranged for your child to do this so that we are aware. Thank you
Harvest Gather Round
Moira will lead our Harvest Gather Round on Monday 30th October 2017 at 10.45am and we are pleased to be working with the Edinburgh Food Project again.
If you have any spare items from the following list that you would be willing to donate on the 30th to this worthy cause that would be great, but please remember that this is optional.
Thank you for discussing your child’s learning in their profile and thank you to all families who have returned them. Please make sure all profiles are returned to the school on Tuesday.
